Become a Contributor

General Queen is a blog for women about relationships and family life: dating, love and marriage, breakups, and the relationships inside a family. We publish honest, practical, non-judgmental advice in plain words, written by people who have actually lived what they write about.

We publish 5 articles a week and are building a small team of paid contributors. Our founder and editor, Jennifer Zilin, edits every article and writes about dating and texting herself.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for contributors in three areas. You only need one.

Marriage and long-term relationships

You’ve been married or in a committed long-term relationship for several years. Topics like keeping a marriage strong, communication, arguments that keep coming back, love languages, trust, date nights, and loneliness inside a relationship.

Family relationships

You’re raising kids or teens, or caring for an aging parent, or both. Topics like talking to teenagers, sibling rivalry, in-laws, stepfamilies, family traditions, and caring for aging parents without burning out. This is about relationships within the family, not child health or medical topics.

Breakups, divorce and co-parenting

You’ve been through a divorce or a serious breakup, and ideally you co-parent. Topics like getting over a breakup, knowing when a relationship is over, telling kids about divorce, co-parenting ground rules, and being happy on your own again.

What you’ll write

  • Guides of 1,200–2,000 words and lists of 1,000–1,500 words, from topics we plan together. You get a short brief with the topic, the question to answer and related articles to link to.
  • Around 2 articles a week to start, and more if it suits you.
  • Written for women in the US, in US English.
  • The answer to the reader’s question comes first, then real examples and practical steps.
  • Facts and statistics link to reliable sources.
  • On sensitive topics such as cheating, abuse, divorce and kids, or mental health: calm, kind, and clear about when to get professional help.

What matters most to us

  • Real experience. Your own experience is what makes an article worth reading. You share only what you’re comfortable sharing.
  • Honesty. Everything you describe as your experience must be true. We never publish invented stories or personas.
  • Your own writing. You may use tools for research or outlines, but drafts must be written by you. We don’t accept AI-generated drafts.
  • Clear, warm, plain writing, with no hype, clickbait or lecturing.
  • Reliability: deadlines met, and edits handled without fuss.

Your byline

Your articles are published under your own real name (we don’t use pen names), with a short bio and photo on your contributor page. That’s part of what makes readers trust the advice, and it builds your portfolio.

How it works

  • Paid per article. Tell us your rate when you apply.
  • We start with one paid trial article before agreeing on regular work.
  • Briefs and drafts are shared in Google Docs. Jennifer edits every article, usually with one round of light edits.
  • You can show your published articles in your portfolio. General Queen holds the publishing rights.

Apply

Tell us which area fits you, why your experience fits it, and share 2–3 writing samples. Jennifer reads every application.
